Mershon, Carl J.
Carl Mershon was born on June 20, 1901 in Ludlow. He served as a state representative for four years. Mershon was on the ballot for an additional term in November 1973, but died before the election was held. Ludlow resident Elmer Dietz took Mershon’s place on the ballot. Mershon sponsored the legislation that created Northern Kentucky State College (current Northern Kentucky University).
Prior to being a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, Carl Mershon was with the Kenton County Police Patrol. He served as chief of the department for sixteen years.
Mershon died on October 27, 1973 at the age of 72. His wife Delores died in November 1972. He was survived by a sister, Margaret Brinkman of Ludlow. His brother, former Ludlow Police Chief William Ernst Mershon, died in 1969. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Boniface Church in Ludlow with burial at Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.
