Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2023, about 6.7 million Americans were living with Alzheimer's.  As the number of Americans over 65 continues to grow, it is estimated that, by 2060, as many as 14 million people will have Alzheimer's.

Caring for people with Alzheimer's or dementia can be tremendously difficult.  The Alzheimer's Association says that "Compared with caregivers of people without dementia, twice as many caregivers of those with dementia indicate substantial emotional, financial, and physical difficulties."

The good news, is that you're not alone.  The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Cincinnati is a great resource.  It offers free educational programs and organizes local support groups.  It also holds special events and organizes group outings.

Check out the books and movies on the list below, and don't hesitate to ask for assistance from library staff if you want to find more.
