The Covington Protestant Children's Home was founded in Covington, Kentucky, in 1880 by Amos Shinkle, a successful Covington businessman and philanthropist. The Home was originally located at the corner of 14th Street and Madison Avenue and was dedicated on December 19, 1882. The first children were admitted the same month. In 1926 the Home moved to a new location near Devou Park, where it still operates today as the Children's Home of Northern Kentucky. A complete history of the Children's Home can be found on the Kenton County Public Library web site: Children's Home of Northern Kentucky/Covington Protestant Children's Home
